Saya baru saja kembali dari berdiskusi dengan salah satu penyedia jaringan Internet di Indonesia. Salah satu kendala yang mereka hadapi sekarang adalah karena menggunakan banyak perangkat jaringan wireless yang digunakan untuk menggelar jaringan wireless mereka se-Indonesia. Uniknya perangkat wireless ini dihubungkan dengan wireless lan controller yang ada di pusat untuk kemudahan manajemen dan provisioningnya.




Nah, perangkat wireless LAN controller melakukan manajemen perangkat wireless access point yang ada di bawahnya. Tantangannya, adalah bagaimana melakukan monitoring perangkat (seluruh) wireless access point yang ada dan terkoneksi ke wireless lan controller.

Solusi mudahnya adalah dengan memasang monitoring tool yang berbicara langsung dengan wireless lan controller dari berbagai merek yang ada ini dengan satu monitoring tools. Hanya saja harus dipastikan bahwa data yang diperoleh dapat sangat detail seperti yang diharapkan sehingga informasi dari tiap-tiap wireless access point dapat diakses dan ditampilkan di layar.

Kita punya pilihan untuk mengimplementasikan wireless access point yang langsung dimanage di cloud, sehingga kita tidak perlu wireless lan controller. Data yang digunakan untuk transfer dari wireless access point ke centralised server adalah sangat kecil. Hal ini didasari, bahwa sebagaian besar wireless access point umumnya kita gunakan untuk mengakses internet. Kita dapat melakukan manajemen perangkat WAP ini melalui aplikasi yang disediakan secara cloud.


Wah, tentu saja ini sangat tepat dengan tren perkembangan bring your own device yang sekarang sedang marak di perusahaan, instansi, kampus bahkan public hotspot




Dan tentu saja, kita dapat mengontrol devices, applications dan user di tiap WAP.
Kemudian, karena saya pikir ini untuk public hotspot, maka tentu saja untuk guest wifi harus dimungkinkan.
