The long awaited knowledge base will help you capture your IT smarts and share what you know with your users and your fellow IT pros. No more hunting through email and sticky notes to find that all-important how-to… just add critical info to the knowledge base and then share with your fellow IT pros. Plus, you can even share user-facing content directly on the user portal! In Spiceworks 6, you'll be able to:
  • Don’t start from scratch… search and bookmark 2,200+ existing how-to articles to add them to your knowledge base
  • Copy and edit existing articles to make just right for your network, or create your own
  • Sort articles and choose exactly who sees them: just you, your IT team, or even your fellow IT pros in the Spiceworks Community
  • Plus, minimize support calls by adding user-facing knowledge base articles directly to your user portal… help them help themselves!
Here's How: 1) Update to Spiceworks 6. 2) From either the ‘Inventory’ or ‘Help Desk’ drop-down menus, select ‘Knowledge Base.’ 3) From within an article, use the button on the top right to ‘Share,’ ‘Copy and Edit,’ or ‘Bookmark’ articles that are relevant to you. 4) Navigate the ‘Everyone,’ ‘My Team’s’ and ‘Mine’ tabs to filter your personalized knowledge base. 5) Create new articles by clicking ‘New Article’ in the top right – add your content, set the visibility, and go! 6) Get more details here.

Spiceworks Agent

Track and manage roaming devices with the new Spiceworks agent.

Having trouble scanning roaming devices (like your traveling sales exec's laptop)? Install the optional, low-profile agent to get more complete, accurate scans— regardless of where the device happens to be!
  • The agent regularly performs a local scan and then “phones home” to your main Spiceworks installation so your inventory stays up-to-date
  • Have lots of devices? You can mass-deploy the agent on multiple devices to make getting set up a snap
  • Worried about updating the agent on lots of devices? No need – each time the agent phones home, it checks for a newer version

We’ve added a new HP iLO account type so you can scan your iLO devices and hosts. And with Virtual Power Actions, you can manage your iLO power commands without leaving your desk.
Here's How: 1) Update to Spiceworks 6.1. 2) Navigate to the ‘Settings’ page. Click on the link for ‘Network Scan.’ Then select ‘Add a new scan entry’ 3) Next click ‘Have other account links’ and ‘add new HP iLO account’ to enter your iLO credentials to start your new scan.

We're adding Nmap under the covers to help you get your best scan ever. You now have the option of using Nmap for shallow scans to determine what exists on yournetwork before doing a deep scan. Additionally, you’ll benefit from Nmap in the Up/Down check – it’ll be faster and more accurate! This is an optional feature for 6.0 users… read on to see how you can enable it.
Here's How: 1) Update to Spiceworks 6. 2) Navigate to the ‘Settings’ page. Click on the link for ‘Network Scan.’ Near the bottom of the page, click ‘Show Additional Settings.’ 3) Next to ‘Use Nmap Scanning,’ click on the ‘true’ or ‘false’ values to enable/disable Nmap.
User Portal Designer

Customize ticket entry on the User Portal.

Ever wish you had a little more flexibility in setting up the Ticket Form on the User Portal? You got it… With the new Custom Ticket Form, you can build up a customized ticket entry form and even dynamically add custom attributes. Plus, help desk admins can now search tickets!
Here's How: 1) Update to Spiceworks 6. 2) Access your user portal. 3) From the ‘Manage Content’ menu, select ‘Custom Ticket Form.’ 4) Add the form to your user portal page and customize as needed. You can customize as needed and even save multiple templates for different user types.
Software Data Ribbon

With the new software data ribbon, you’ll get at-a-glance info about software installed on your network. Immediately see number of installs, licenses, and even a chart of what versions are being used.
Here's How: 1) Update to Spiceworks 6. 2) View your network software by clicking ‘Inventory’ in the top-level nav and selecting ‘Software.’ 3) From anywhere in the view, select an individual software title – you’ll now see a more useful overview display of info.
